HOW TO COMBAT DRY SKIN: SKIN CARE PRODUCTS I SWEAR BY

If your skin is dryer than the Sahara Desert like mine, then you have come to the right place.  Have no fear though I am here to help you take your sandpaper skin from dry to silky smooth.  I have been through so many brands of skin care products trying to find something that would make my skin nice and soft.  Often times I would be left with overly greasy skin or the product just didn’t work at all.  After trying many different routes I believe that I have finally found the best skin care products that keep my face feeling soft and smooth all day long.  Personally, I believe that you get what you buy and for the longest time I was going the cheap route to save an extra buck, but ever since I have been investing in the products I use, I have noticed the hugest difference in my skin.  I have been following this routine for over a year now and absolutely SWEAR by it. Okay but enough with the chit chat lets just get right into it.  (For my non-readers, list of products mentioned in the article are down at the bottom!)

The first thing you absolutely need in your life to combat dry skin is a facial cleansing brush.  You can get a high end one such as a Clarisonic or you can get ones simply from the drug store.  Either way you need this in your life if you suffer with any type of skin problem such as dry skin, oily skin or breakouts.  Make up wipes or washcloths alone are not good enough if you’re striving for clean, healthy skin.  The brush works deep into the skin and pores to remove oils, excess make up and dead skin.  I never understood before using one of these brushes why face lotion just wasn’t working for me.  I would use the lotion and my face would still be left feeling dry and flaky.  As soon as I started to use the brush though, it got rid of all the dead skin and flakiness on my face making my skin base nice and clean and ready for my face lotion.  If you don’t have one of these I highly recommend investing in one because its really going to make the biggest difference for your skin.

Buying information: I use the Clarisonic Mia 1 and I replace the brush part every few months.  Click Clarisonic Mia 1 to take you to the website where I purchased mine! You could also find these brushes at your local Ulta Store. Prices range from 129-169$.

Now you can’t use a facial cleansing brush without some products so lets get into the products I use to keep my face feeling fresh and soft.

The product that I use as a facial cleanser is the purity face wash by philosophy.  I never realized I had such bad dry skin until one day I went to Ulta to get matched with a foundation and the lady who was helping me told me that I needed to take better care of my skin.  She said my skin was so dry that foundation would look caky on my face.  So she first introduced me to the purity face wash and gave me a sample and I really liked it but it was pretty pricy.  With that being said I decided as a broke college girl I would try some drug store brands first.  After many failed attempts at finding a good drug store brand, I realized nothing made my face feel the way purity made my face feel.  Its amazing especially on sensitive skin.  My skin can’t tolerate many face washes and this one is extremely gentle on my face. Although the price is quite intimidating I promise you, you not only get your moneys worth in quality but quantity as well.  I purchased my last bottle at the end of January and I am only halfway through the bottle and I use the product once a day.  So you will get your moneys worth for sure! This product combined with the Clarisonic brush makes my skin feel absolutely amazing and would recommend this combination to anyone struggling with extremely dry skin.

The last thing I do on a daily basis to keep my skin nice and hydrated is to use a good face moisturizer.  I currently am using the renewed hope in a jar face moisturizer also by philosophy.  I enjoy this face moisturizer so much because it really hydrates the face while not leaving your face greasy.  I apply this once a day right after using the cleansing brush.  With this product you will also get your moneys worth.  A little bit of this product really does go a long way so although you are spending a lot you it will be worth it in the long run.

A product that I use once a week is known as the micro-delivery peel and it is rich in vitamin c and peptides.  When I do use this,  I use it right after I wash my face and then I would apply the face moisturizer after.  This product is amazing and leaves my face feeling so fresh.  Although the one thing about this product that frustrated me was it was hard to figure out how to use it.  Maybe it was just me but on the box I was having a hard time using it so I will simplify it here for you if you are interested in using it.  So all you have to do is massage the exfoliator on your face for 1 minute and then apply the activating gel for 2-3 minutes and then wash it off.  I was confused at first because its called a “peel” so I thought it was going to harden to peel off, but it really doesn’t harden at all.  It stays moist the whole time so don’t freak out if it doesn’t turn into an actual peel, its not going to do that. According to the site it is supposed to smooth out your face and renew it which is perfect for dry skin.  I believe this product works a lot better than ones from the drug store because it is not only renewing and smoothing your skin but it is also infusing your skin with vitamin C and peptides.  It is an amazing product and would recommend my dry skin ladies and gents to give it a try.

Investing in skin care products can be quite scary especially if you are living on a budget.  It took me the longest time to take the leap into investing in high end products.  No worries though I have some tips to getting your moneys worth of these products.  One day I was browsing through the website and realized you could buy the products in a bundle.  Alone the face cleanser is about 30$, the moisturizer is about 60$ and the micro-delivery peel for 40$.  In the bundle that I get though you get all three for 75$.  There are a bunch of different bundles to choose from but this one is personally my favorite set.  You get everything you need for an everyday basis plus a face mask all while saving money.  This definitely makes jumping into high end skin care a lot easier and not taking as huge a hit on your wallet.

Buying information:  This is the bundle that I use–> Cleanse, Refine, Renew.  You can order this offline or I just go to my local Ulta and they also have this available for in store purchase.  If you want to look through their other bundles just go to the gifts section and then skin care and you can look through all their items!
